Desktop app: known issues

Things we know about in the EliteRefs desktop app, and how to work around them.

Windows SmartScreen notice on first launch

Windows

Windows may show a "Windows protected your PC" notice the first time you run the installer. This happens to new desktop applications until they build download reputation with Microsoft, and does not mean the file is unsafe.

What to do: Select "More info", check that the publisher and file name are as expected, then select "Run anyway". Only install files downloaded from eliterefs.com.

Screen sharing needs Screen Recording permission on macOS

macOS

Sharing your screen in a meeting requires macOS Screen Recording permission. Until it is granted, screen sharing will show a blank screen or fail to start.

What to do: Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, enable EliteRefs, then quit and reopen the app.

Sign in with email and password

All platforms

Single sign-on (SSO) and "Sign in with Google" are not yet available in the desktop app.

What to do: Sign in with your email and password. If you normally use SSO or Google, use "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen to set a password for your account.
